is not that they're becoming the top-rated shows (because tv execs can't seem to come up with compelling content), or that even when not top-rated, they're still ubiquitous because they're very cost-effective (cheap to make, when you can take out the writing and acting talent; the only money you really have to spend is in the editing room)...
...its that because they're so top-rated and so f'ing ubiquitous that mainstream medea considers what happens on them as news. That "LaToya" (the first idiot with that name since the Jackson sister practically disappeared when her 15 minutes were up) got kicked out is only of interest to those who actually watch the f'ing show, and they would already know that, even if they missed that episode, they would like a soap opera find out through their own circles.
I shouldn't have to "know" about it. I shouldn't have to know a single person's name on that damned piece of trash (yes, dawny, I think it and the whole concept behind it sucks royally -- they don't win by pushing their own true talents, they win by massaging themselves into what the audience wants to see, and that to me is the ultimate in self-degredation and prostitution).
Any "reality-show" factoid certainly should NEVER be on any mainstream news media's "top 10 most important current events headlines" the way this stupid thing ended up on the AP's top-headlines newsfeed to yahoo.
Its a f'ing show that I don't f'ing watch, so I shouldn't have to have it f'ing subjected to me in the news. Bad enough I have to endure its endless, repetative, act like its of any importance advertisements that parade themselves through Law & Order each week.

Date: 2004-05-13 12:26 pm (UTC)unfortunately, ever since "Who Shot J.R.?" turned itself into a headline, i don't see that the situation has improved since then.
i do keep my insane ramblings behind a cut, tho, because i know people don't care just cuz i for some unknown reason do. :)
