...just what it takes for an abandoned LJ account to finally get removed and the name thrown into the recycling list, considering my original desired name (acroyear) was originally created in 2001, but has had 0 posts, 0 friends, 0 friend of, 0 commends, 0 activities of ANY TYPE AT ALL, and yet it has never been deleted and recalled.

According to people in Support, they're purging them in small batches. If there's a specific name you have an eye on, go to http://www.livejournal.com/manage/subscriptions/user.bml?journal=exampleusername (for the appropriate username, of course) and you can add a subscription for when it's purged.

I kinda like the fact that the journal of one of my friends who passed away is still up. But the ones that have been deleted should be purged by now.

it has never been deleted. it has, quite simply, never been *used*.

Far as I know, LJ policy is never to delete those accounts.
