Started real slow and cold, the kind of humid cold that just bites your bones and joints in half, even though its above freezing. I *hate* that.

Things looked up in that on wednesday, I got a job offer, even though to my mind, that was the worst damn interview I gave this entire season. I asked for some time 'cause others (the bbn thing) were still pending. There were other reasons not to take it, including a really annoying dress code (you guys know I can't live without jeans...outside of faire, anyways), and a relative lack of a sense of humor; 2 weeks in there and i'd likely have driven one or two of them mad.

Well, thursday got bad 'cause the bbn thing fell through. Seems that as the new contracts that started on the new year were analyzed, there was less of a call for my particular talents and more for another candidate. go fig. I still held onto the other offer, but didn't take it.

Thursday looked better 'cause after having been told it was "3 months away" for the longest time, I found out that Adelphia actually did have cable modem in Sterling. Turns out their marketting budget was the most hit by their financial woes (I think they were still under legal pressure/contract from the county to finish the job). So we'll have cable modem. I got a wireless 802.11b kit (with built-in firewall/virtual-private-network) to LAN up the computer room and allow WIFI to the TV room where we'll have the laptops set up for dual (duel?) wench chats on the occasional tuesdays we're free! The modem should come in within a week, so I'll have to budget time to do the installation.

I'm having small problems with the USB adapter in my win98 box, but its almost time to consider a new laptop (maybe even an Apple? i'll stop by the shop sometime, mr. the (welsh) dragon)) and after cleaning it up, wiping the disk, and doing a fresh OS install, perhaps donating the old one to a good cause.

The problems, however, were quite frustrating and led me to believe my good luck had run out...

Today. Miracles happen. Go fig.

The job that I *really really really* thought I had, and got turned down for 'cause of reasons now discussed and accepted...well, between not finding anybody better, and a hell of a recommendation from a former co-worker (the one who got me the ISX job back in '96 knowing what I did for Autometric where he also worked -- damn I owe him a serious drink), they decided to make me an offer anyways, and 'cause I really liked them (on the whole, that early decision not withstanding) and the benefits are outstanding, I decided to take it.

Not sure when I'm starting yet. Something tells me one of the things I'll be involved in will be helping to improve their interview process. ;-)

time to hit the bank and then maybe join in a happy hour or two...i'd say two dozen, but I gotta drive.

Special thanks to those who put me on Capi's prayer list.

Now start putting in good thoughts for Maso, m'kay?

To make things even better, one of my fav musicians, Steve Hackett is releasing a new live archive set from his recent european tour...and being dutifully employed, I can actually afford to buy it!. First 250 are autographed, and I think I likely came in on that...

YAY!!!!

Yup, I'd say you had a good week.

Here's hoping that the job ends up being something that you can be reasonably happy with, on top of it bringing in a bit of cash!
