Dispatches from the Culture Wars: Kmiec Denied Communion Over Obama Endorsement:
In a really odd turn of events Kmiec, a devout Catholic, was denied the right to take communion by a university chaplain after the chaplain excoriated him for supporting Obama.

Mark Twain suggests in Connecticut Yankee that the Catholic Church maintains power by influencing politics (he fairly clearly has little positive in his thoughts about Catholicism). But this sounds more like one chaplain (not a priest?) with his habit in a twist is abusing his authority. The comments to the article indicate that the American Council of Bishops do not hold with this practice, and one commentor indicated that such actions could endanger charity tax-status for the church.

but note as with EVERY time a Priest does wrong, they don't actually condemn the priest outright.

they can "not hold with this practice" all they want, but as long as they are not punishing the individual for the practice then they are condoning this. this waffle language may work on their own flock, but it holds no water with me.

The Catholic church insists it should alone have the right to punish its priests for misdoings, and then simply never does it. the evidence for it goes back centuries and was the whole reason Thomas Beckett was appointed in the first place...who then promptly fell into line.
