...never take Americans seriously until Spy Who Loved Me?

Seriously, the hicks they had on Diamonds are Forever and Live and Let Die are just ridiculous...

Evidently the reason they had that redneck cop in Live and Let Die was because the villains were black, and they needed to counterbalance any racist undertones the audience might have had a problem with.

That's pretty much how the British intelligence community saw their American counterparts after WWII: happy-go-lucky clueless hicks with unlimited money and no class, blundering into the Empire's old and venerable Great Game.

But let's not forget that these two pictures are considered two of the worst Bond films in the series (add them to Moonraker!). LALD made me not go and see another Bond film until 1981 when they made Moore's quintessential "For Your Eyes Only".

Now I am most looking forward to 11/7/08 and the release of the first real Bond sequel ever, "Quantum of Solace". Go Daniel Craig!!!

The films don't take anyone seriously. The books do, but the films don't.
