You can not, under any stretch of the word "original", say that a movie that is a basic re-imagining of a franchise that is 25 years old is "the most original movie of the year".

You just can't.

Damn, it's time to get another irony meter.

I totally agree. Which one are you referring to?

the "25 year" date should have given it away: Transformers. Calling themselves "most original" is their campaign for their DVD release.

Now in a summer mostly filled with triquels (and beyond in Potter's case, plus the 4th animated penguin movie Surf's Up), that's one thing.

But it does ignore both Meet the Robinsons and Ratatouille and that really annoys me. It also ignores a lot of original films that weren't "blockbusters" and acts as though if its not a blockbuster, it didn't exist which from a studio is *incredibly* insulting, especially to other movies the studio has released. It also acts as though the year is done and one shouldn't bother to pay attention to the more original works to come out for Oscar contention in the early winter.

Its not only insane (and lying) but its also insulting to the craft.

Holy CRAP! It HAS been 25 years, I didn't realize that. I suppose Voltron or Thundercats will be next.

(I think I read somewhere, possibly Starlog, that there is indeed a Thundercats feature in the pre-production stage)
