Every year, there's a christmas song (I don't even qualify them as carols anymore, especially the modern "rock" songs that have replaced traditional christmas carols of old victoria) that becomes inescapable in that I am stuck hearing it at least 3 times a day simply by changing locations to one that hasn't played it until I get there.

This year that song of no escape is "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", Brenda Lee, 1958.

I'm about 10 blood-pressure points away from violence upon hearing that song again.  Consider yourselves warned...

i have noticed that one on VERY high rotation this year. the other one is Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You." they play them both on EVERY commute back and forth to work, and i know they must be going on a hundred times a day.

i used to like them both. yes, even the Mariah Carey one. then i saw Love, Actually, and the little girl at the end who sings that song blows Mariah sky high out of the water. now that's my favourite version and i don't like Mariah's near as much.

My sympathies. Haven't been able to stand that one since junior high, when we had to sing it in choir.
Rhapsody and XM are saving me from The Horror this year (along with online shopping) - right now I've got the Choir of Kings College, Cambridge doing "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing". Now that's Christmas.

I'm in agreement with you... they aren't really carols any more & are overplayed.

About twice now, I heard our local indy station play a cute folks-y Christmas song that I'd never heard before (and I was pretty sure I was subjected to every last one of them over the years) about decorating their trees with shotgun shells. Dorky, yes... but it wasn't so bad. A bit more humble, without being overly sentimental. See my blog for the lyrics.

And now it's stuck in my head, and I haven't even heard it yet this year.

Damn you.
