religion now out-trumping genetics?

People were asked:

Most astronomers believe the universe formed about 13.7 billion years ago in a massive event called the Big Bang. Do you think that's about right or do think the universe was created much more recently?

As you might guess, Republicans outdid themselves in their stupidity (and in other news, dog bites man...).

The numbers, grouped by race, showed 58% of white people answering "Right", vs 75% and 73% for blacks and hispanics respectively.

But it's odd how, whenever there's a behavioral observation that reflects poorly on minorities or women, 'genetic conservatives' assume a genetic basis, whereas when white people behave like fucking morons, genetics isn't even broached.

With a bead of sweat rolling down the side of his face outside a Columbia bar, Republican S.C. Sen. Jake Knotts called Lexington Rep. Nikki Haley, an Indian-American Republican woman running for governor, a “raghead” several times while explaining how he believed she was hiding her true religion from voters.

“She’s a f#!king raghead,” Knotts said.

He later clarified his statement. He did not mean to use the F-word.

I actually laughed out loud at that one.

He also needs a lesson into a bit of theology as well:

“We need a good Christian to be our governor,” he said. “She’s hiding her religion. She ought to be proud of it. I’m proud of my god.”

I didn't know God was someone who actually considered Pride a virtue. I'd seen it on the deadly 7 list all my life.

Oh, and lets just try to write the whole thing off:

“My ‘raghead’ comments about Obama and Haley were intended in jest,” Knotts said in a statement.

Am I the only one who thinks the Right Wing simply is incapable of actually being funny?

On the other hand, reason (or at least, a reasonable intolerance of intolerance) has prevailed in Prescott, AZ, where the radio idiot that condemned the "diversity" of the mural has been fired, and the school administrators that were about to change it have reconsidered.
