...but the AT40s on saturdays are from 70s on 7, not 80s on 8.

This was from March, 1978.

You had two choices.  Mellow.  Or Disco.  Sometimes it was both.  Some choice, 'eh?

3 months into Saturday Night Fever.  The Bee Gees had 6 songs related to them (either directly or as writers/backing vocals) in the whole countdown.  But they were topped by their little brother Andy with "Thicker than Water" at #1.  At any rate (ok, at a rapid rate) they were well on their way to being one of the few acts with 3 or more songs in the top 5, joining the Beatles (and later joined by Michael Jackson) as being among the few to do so.

If it wasn't the Bee Gees, it was mellow.  Barry Manilow's Cant' Smile without You.  Billy Joel's Just the Way you Are.  Paul Davis's I Go Crazy (which I discovered you could layer Styx's Babe on top of and not notice anything wrong with it).  Every song #1 with a bullet to the broken heart of any broken relationship at the time and for the next decade and a half.  And I though that AT40 from 1982 was bad...

Worst case, of course, was when it was both Bee Gees AND Mellow.  Though strangely enough, I still don't find "How Deep is your Love" to be all THAT bad, compared with most of their output at the time.

I'm glad the 70s are over.  I'm glad the 70s revival is pretty much over, too.

Tomorrow, back to the 80s.  Hopefully a good one.
