A LiveJournal Change
Jan. 24th, 2006 10:04 pmMy biggest problem is that its now making me "log in again" every day. this would not be so bad except that i don't realize it until either i actually noticed there aren't any friends-locked posts on my freinds list, or until i try to write a comment and it tells me i'm "anonymous".
the latter is worse, because if i'm writing a comment and i decide to go through with it and log in at the same time, i'm stuck with my default icon choice, which i rarely use most of the time.
That's change #1 that bothers me; its not more secure because it actually means we're logging in more often, meaning our passwords are flying through the 'net more often for random pickup by snoopers.
Change #2 is also annoying: appearantly they got 1 too many people who panicked because they were looking at a friends' friendslist and saw their own post which that particular friend wasn't supposed to be able to see. In spite of the fact that it has been in the FAQs for years, they were still getting tons of emails of panic worrying that this person could see the post they weren't supposed to see. The fact was that person couldn't. even if you looked at someone else's friendslist, as long as you were logged into LJ as yourself you could only see the posts you specifically were allowed to see.
Well, that explanation a million times wasn't enough for them.
So they got rid of that feature.
If you look at your friendslist you will see posts you are permitted to see. If you look directly at someone else's main blog page, you will see those locked posts they have permitted you to see.
If you look at someone else's friendslist, you will only see public posts. No private posts, no protected posts. Only public.
this is, to me, annoying because I was using cyd's friendslist to occasionally keep up with those who'd friended me but that i don't have time to see on my regular page, and now that protected (to me) posts are no longer there, that page is of no use.
bleh.
