What was...

1. ...your first grade teacher's name?
I had three (we seprated for english and math from our home-room teachers who covered everything else like social studies and art). I only remember two of them. Mrs. Deveaux, who in spite of the french name, was a very upstanding, thin black woman. I remember her mostly because my brother also had her as a teacher 6 years later. Wouldn't be the first or last time that happened (I think the current total stands at 10 shared teachers in spite of the 6 year gap, and of those, 3 remembered me).

The other was Bobbi Armstrong, for english. I most remember her for intentionally mispronouncing "syllables" as "sallillables". I also remember her name because she switched to 3rd grade just as I got there, so she was my english teacher again 2 years later.

2. ...your favorite Saturday morning cartoon?
Bugs Bunny / Road Runner on CBS. 90 full minutes of it.

3. ...the name of your very first best friend?
Chris Coddington. Being guys, we probably fought more than played, per se. When I got back from California after grades 4/5, his family had moved to a neighboring town, so aside from a december birthday party (seeing The Watcher in the Woods from Disney), I haven't seen him since. That was december 1981.

4. ...your favorite breakfast cereal?
at the time, Honey Comb. but at the time, I didn't eat cereal much because of milk intolerances (that like many other intolerances turned out to be a false alarm).

5. ...your favorite thing to do after school?
at the time (still in first grade)? TV, though the options were limited. 2 hours of sesame street, 3 to 5, followed by Mr. Rogers and Electric Company. Jax didn't have any independent channels until 1980. Sometimes, the babysitter/housekeeper would have Match Game on instead. Now, I get far more of the jokes and innuendos than I would have at the time.

"Live Journal Ancestry: Who made you get a LiveJournal? Post that person's LJ, and if this meme spreads, see, you'll eventually be able to click click click and see who your LJ grandfather, great grandmother, great great grandthing, etc, etc, is all the way back to the pioneer days."

That would be my wife, [livejournal.com profile] faireraven, and I only originally did it to have the "friends" thing to keep an eye on her and a few other AFR types who'd moved on to LJ because we were posting more personal stuff than renfaire stuff over there.

Then politics happened, and things changed.

"There can be no incompatibility between Christian faith and proven facts concerning geology, biology, and astronomy. There is no need to teach that stars can fall out of the sky and land on a flat Earth in order to defend our religious faith." -- Carter, in reply to the idea that Georgia should eliminate the word "Evolution" from its curriculum (and yet still teach the concepts while dodging that supposedly biased word).
