hey kids, we love it when you play with your wooden swords in the festival

but please parents, explain to the kids that the 40 foot siege engines have to be left at home, ok?

thanks!

seriously...

Yeah, someone actually did it.  A little before 2, a truck pulled up with a full size crusades-issue trebuchet into the festival parking log.

This thing was in no way associated with the festival or any of its cast members, including Nimblewyck who we know has talked about building one in the past.

Rumor mill report (accuracy may vary):
Supposedly the thing was brought just because the guys showing up at the festival had just come from a Girl Scout camp where they were demoing the thing.

Also, supposedly, their "rock" of choice for flinging wasn't a pumpkin (though I'd guess they probably compete in that as well), but an empty beer keg!

It was gone by the time I got to gate after closing, so I have no idea where it actually was or when it left.  Still, "I thought I'd seen everything, but damn, and damn^2 'cause this is only opening weekend" was a thought running through a LOT of cast vets by the end of the day...

We saw it!! We saw it!! I guess we should have taken a picture though..

We of course just thought it was a faire prop though, never realized someone would just bring a thing like that with them. Cool!!

Tree Buckets for everyone!!!

*pick jaw up from ground* No way! (Way.) :)

I left around 5pm and didn't see it, though admittedly I was focused on finding my car and it's air-conditioned interior. (Bad Apple, for not taking care to keep cool that day. I'll do better next time.)

re: the title - you've apparently not been cracked in the shins by an overzealous child and one of those swords. *ouch*

I would have loved to have seen this thing. I wonder what Carolyn thought (assuming that she saw it).

well, my title was meant to read sarcastic. i hate the damn things, too, and twice had to break up a "fight" on the verge of causing a real fight.

On the bright side, I saw *two* different parents (one mother, one father - not the same families) tell their kids to stop hitting the trees with their swords yesterday. So apparently there are at least a *few* sensible parents out there... think there's even a vague chance the trend might continue?
