What a short, strange trip.

Gore announces 'global warming' concerts - Yahoo! News:
LOS ANGELES - Al Gore announced on Thursday a series of worldwide concerts to focus on the threat of climate change, with a powerhouse lineup from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Snoop Dogg to Bon Jovi.

The 24-hour event on July 7 is part of a campaign, Save Our Selves — The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis, that promoters hope will trigger a broad movement to address what the former vice president calls a global climate crisis.
Let me get this straight.

We're going to promote awareness of global warming by holding a massive series of rock concerts involving
  • dozens of 18 wheeler trucks and
  • several gas-guzzling tour buses, to a bunch of cities, to put on shows that
  • use tons of electricity,
  • likely primarily generated by coal-burning plants, to blare out the message to kids who all had to drive to these concerts,
  • many each in their own individual cars for at least part, if not all, of the trip.
Yeah, I see the message.  Yet another variation on destroying the world to save it.

He was better off just marketing the dvd.

So --

• if they don't do this, then nobody will put on concerts anyway?

• it's a nunch of simultaenous concerts held in a 24 hour span, not a "tour," obviating the "tour buses."

• People won't drive anyway?

Sometimes you gotta break a few eggs, dude.

They bought carbon offsets for the movie (a whole other can of worms, I know) -- I bet they've thought of this already.
