My guess is that she saw what the Twilight series did to vampire mythology and realized that a loving God would never allow that to happen. Sparkly Vampires = No God.

(granted, she never said she was an atheist/agnostic, just that she was leaving (dis)organized religion, but it's still funny)

One could argue that a loving god would never have allowed any of her books after Queen of the Damned.
