Does any LA or SD news site really have LOCAL news?

Most of the LA TV station's "news" sites don't give any decent local news coverage at all. All I keep seeing are rehashes of the exact same (now 8 hours old) API story from this morning.

I mean, in DC, when you go to http://www.wtopnews.com/ you get serious LOCAL news updated hourly, as you would if you hit washingtonpost.com. Yet even the LA Times hasn't posted a reasonable update to the situations since the Simi Valley fire crossed 118, and that was hours ago...

*sigh*

Just want more details that the web just isn't giving...I'd give just about anything for west coast's local news on tv right now...

I dunno, maybe that's a very Washington thing. I've been looking for a local equivalent to WTOP since I moved to Baltimore! (Yeah, most of what WTOP talks about still applies to me, but I want Baltimore traffic reports and some clue what the sirens I just heard were going to.) Having heard WTOP all my life, it just seems really bizarre to consider that not every city has a station like that.

actually, as far as all-news goes, WTOP is rare. most news stations are "talk-news", more like WMAL 630, and often with national-level syndicated or networked shows like Rush or the liberal alternatives. In B'more, 1080 I think is a sports/talk station that does rush-hour reports every 15 min, but that's about all i've heard...and if there's an O's game on, forget it, 'cause they'll broadcast that instead, like WTOP used to do (and still does on the 820am Frederick transmitter).

Central Jersey does have traffic every 15 minutes, starting 3min after the hour, regardless of what talk show is going on...but that doesn't help your situation much, I admit.

NJ 101.5 doesn't just do central jersey, dear, it's ALL of Jersey... With a secondary transmitter on 97.3 for south east Jersey.

Few other stations in jersey do that kind of traffic coverage... But 101.5 also is just talk shows all weekday long (and the weekends is the oldies show)... For the news, you have to hit 1010 wins... and that is just like CNN in that they gloss over all the world news, not just the local.

101.5 just does the local stuff at the top of the hour. Beyond that, it's all talk.

Grrr--tell me about it! At school (until it was closed, that is) this afternoon, I felt so cut off without radio or TV news! Trying to find *current* info on the internet reminded me of a needle in a haystack...
