what i want on dvd...

So, Earth 2 and Space: Above and Beyond are out, as I said, so pretty much aside from a few specific Dr. Who episodes and the other muppet seasons (Muppets and Fraggle Rock), I've pretty much decided the only 2 dvd "TV" shows I want (under the knowledge that WKRP will never be released...) are:
  • Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr. - July 18th!
  • Max Headroom
any other essentials that they're avoiding whilst the next season of "Dukes of Hazzard" makes it out?

Max Headroom absolutely rocked! It also gave rise to a great irony moment, when Max was a cover story for Newsweek, and that same issue had articles on such cyberpunk issues as the illegal trade in human organs and the use of drugs (mostly ritalin), under the pressure of school officials, to control normal kids who didn't really need them.

If you have money to burn, I also suggest you get "Firefly."

got it for cyd. she's a little more than halfway through and i've seen about half of those with her.

i do have every max on vhs, thanks to bravo's runs in the 90s before they gave up and became totally commercial (and slave to nbc...not that i mind the west wing all that much).

some of the concepts are too close to reality these days - 20 minutes in the future? almost too little...

uh, no i didn't...

thanks!

Well, sometime soon. I'm not entirely sure when I'll get mine because it's part of a huge DVD order that isn't supposed to come until they're all released. But yay! Brisco on DVD at last!

We can but hope that Max will eventually follow.

Why won't WKRP ever be released? Is that just pessimism or is there some reason? I liked that show! :)

see my much earlier post on the muppet show missing some songs.

WKRP used real contemporarly rock pieces as its bumpers and background music in the "studio"/booth. Each of those pieces of music needs to be independently licensed for "sale" on the dvd since its a different medium from an audio-only recorded work. this makes the process time-consuming and expensive, and as the muppets showed, can result in some companies being rediculous holdouts for more money than it deserves and will blackmail them by refusing to license the tracks.

the whole process would make "Season 1" cost about $99 which is out of the price-point for tv comedy seasons (which is $39 or less).

the standard record company complaints apply: for all the "we're doing it for the artist" crap the record labels spout during this bullshit negotiation phase, they have no accounting means for handling this kind of license back to the artist - the labels keep all the money.

How loverly! What a shame. Thanks for the elucidation.
