A rather annoyed note from your local better business bureau

If you need work done on your house, avoid Jeeves Handyman Services (I figured with them paying for a magnet advertisement in the YP, they'd have some money and therefore be somewhat successful and reliable -- i thought wrong).

They have cancelled my appointment for cleaning our gutters and looking at the water damage (small, but noticeable) at the back doors 4 times now (the 3rd time they 1) tried to cancel the day before because they got the weather predictions entirely backwards, and 2) didn't show up at all, and the dispatcher lady couldn't even locate the guy who was supposed to do it).

Time to move on. I've stayed at home 3 times now, waiting for a handyman and only getting a cancellation call. I no longer have the time to stay at home (this week I was between projects, which was the ideal time to do it; now I'm in a project again and have to be at the office every day).

Damn.

Anybody in VA know of a RELIABLE handyman that keeps appointments?

ooooooooooooooooooo - i hate that! Trying to maintain your home, dealing with repair people - it's like playing russian roulette with the yellow pages. If you don't know the person/handiman/painter/fence repair dude/roofer/etc... you have no idea what you'll get when you make that call.
Even if you *do* know them (i've hired contractors from my church), it's like once they are in their "professional world", they're someone else! Like the rules decree they will break appointments and take twice as long and charge thrice as much.... as they said.

Where is the honesty and integrity in that?

What is the answer??

The Scam of Jeeves

I've had a running mystery about the Jeeves people going on in my blog this month - they are a front company for a lot of other companies, and the mystery deepens every day. Take a look at http://www.genecowan.com/blog and search for "Jeeves"...

Handyman Services

There is a company that I have used in the past for minor handyman stuff up to some renovations. They have been very professional with quality work. They are Miller Home Services (based just across the river in Bethesda). 301-229-8154. They always call to confirm and follow up. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I had a serious mold problem in my bathroom and I was looking for a handyman services company. I came upon your website and read you blog, but a friend had highly recommended Jeeves Handyman Services..I called them up hesitantly, because they the closest to my place. They gave me an appointment right away, the handyman showed up right on time..and was prompt, very skilled and CLEAN! I guess in the past 3 years they've greatly improved their services! I recommend you try'em out again.
