good: kilts in much cooler weather
bad: if it rains, there'll be some very muddy cabers out there...

The King is NOT married to Catherine Parr yet (so we're not killing him off or nothin').

It's great that they moved Scottish to a sensible weekend, but I wish Children's was later in the run; first weekend is always wicked hot. Herself's second faire, we spent a significant portion of the day in the First Aid's AC room, cooling down. :|

Your little'uns are still under 6, right? So they should get in free anytime, IIRC. Children's weekend allows the free pass to kids up to (and including) 11 years old (again, IIRC), which is a way to boost sales in the early part of the season, and give kids a chance to see the show before homework and junior-league sports and scouts etc. monopolize their weekends.

As for wicked hot, there are some seasons where it seems like 19 days of wcked hot!

there are some where it is 18 days of wicked hot (2 years ago counts).

this is my conjecture and not based on any factual knowledge. children's weekend is the free weekend for kiddies. yes it's also hot, but people tend to take their kiddies home early anyway. most kids can't stay the entire day at the faire hot OR mild.

also, first run weekend where you get all the kinks out of the schedule. kids and frazzled parents don't notice that stuff. ;)

free for kiddies, special shows aimed at kiddies (some 1st weekend only shows). Having the little ones concentrate at the beginning of the run is a Good Thing in my book because the crowds are less so it is easier for parents to take a fussy kid out of a show and it is easier for parents to keep an eye on their kids (assuming of course that they do watch the kid and have consideration for other patrons).

why wouldn't the cabers get wet if it is hot on Scottish weekend.

GD&R

Seriously, have Scottish this late will be interesting. I'd worry more about the potential for COLD rain on the caber-toss people who will get a might chilly without shirts.

I wonder what they are going to do for Shakespeare this year, I'd love to see the sonnet reading come back.

Should be an interesting court year based on what they had up yesterday.
