Wow! I got to meet him twice, and my band...or was it orchestra... got to play one of his pieces before publication at one point.

He really was an interesting conductor to follow... and not such a bad speaker for someone not completely at ease talking to a bunch of high school students.

like leading the NYPO (ala Bernstein), you don't get to lead the Boston Pops without being able to teach well.
